Chicagoland area trains and buses, as well as accessible walking and bike routes, give us a healthy, clean, and affordable way for everyone to get around. However, poor coordination among state and local leadership and lack of funding for transit agency operating budgets means we haven’t been able to rely on these modes to get us where we need to go. We need to reimagine our transportation system to shift away from a car-based system that prioritizes the profits of polluting, dangerous cars and highways over people, our communities, and our environment. We need the Illinois General Assembly to invest in public transit.
