It has outsourced jobs to Austin, Texas, and even overseas, taking jobs from your friends and neighbors. All this while telling you that you should support your local newspaper and its journalists by advertising and subscribing to its product. Now, Gannett has told its 61 Canton Repository and Massillon Independent employees in NewsGuild Local 1 they will no longer have AultCare health insurance next year. Instead, they wish to force-feed these employees the employer's inferior self-funded insurance plan – at an increased cost to Guild members. Worse yet, the employer says its Guild employees don't even deserve a pay raise. The Guild has been patient during its three years of bargaining a contract that expired nearly three years ago. But our patience has worn thin. Gannett's decision to turn its back on AultCare and its Guild employees in Canton and Massillon is unacceptable. Like us, AultCare is a long-standing member of this community. It employs 400-plus people, also your friends and neighbors. And its parent, the Aultman Health Foundation, is the most consistent and valued philanthropist in Stark County.
