Take Action for Southern Resident Killer Whales

Endangered southern resident killer whales (orcas) are starving. The food source they reply on to survive–Chinook salmon–are themselves on the brink. Climate change, overfishing, and pollution have led caused salmon numbers to plummet. We have the chance to take meaningful action to begin to save salmon and orcas by strengthening federal limits on commercial and recreational salmon fishing. An amendment to the Pacific Coast Salmon Fishery Management Plan would set a base level for Chinook salmon. If the population sank below this level, fishing would be restricted. This could allow salmon to begin to recover and provide hope–and strengthen a critically needed food source–for endangered orcas. Tell the National Marine Fisheries Service to set strict limits on commercial and recreational salmon fishing.
