Email Your Legislators to Support Packaging Reduction in NJ!

Right now, when New Jersey residents buy products at a store or online, they have no control over the amount of packaging that those products come in. The bulk of packaging that cannot be reused or recycled is made of single-use plastic. A strong packaging reduction bill would require companies to reduce their packaging by 50% over 10 years and require producers to redesign the remaining packaging to be refillable, reusable, or truly recyclable. Importantly, a strong bill bans toxic chemicals, requiring companies to remove PFAS, vinyl chloride, formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, phthalates, bisphenols, and heavy metals from their packaging. And when packaging is discarded, companies are made legally and financially responsible for the end-life-management of their packaging, instead of relying on taxpayers to foot the bill as they currently do. Companies would be required to pay to collect, sort, and manage discarded packaging, providing much-needed taxpayer relief and funding for NJ municipal recycling programs and infrastructure. Can you join me and send a letter to support the Packaging Product Stewardship bill (S3398/A5009)?
