Now, a bill introduced by Congresswomen Rosa DeLauro, Susan Bonamici, and Adelita Grijalva would close this loophole and protect federal tax dollars from going to for-profit-run charter schools. The Championing Honest and Responsible Transparency in Education Reform (C.H.A.R.T.E.R.) Act, would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure federal tax dollars are not awarded to charter schools run by for-profits.
