Tell Congress: Reauthorize TVPRA

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

A recent Atlantic article told the story of Eudocia (AKA Lola), and described a harrowing tale of modern-day slavery. Eudocia’s story told through the eyes of Alex Tizon, is powerful and extraordinary, but unfortunately, not an isolated incident. Despite laws on the books for a hundred years, modern-day slavery and human trafficking still exist in the United States. Domestic work is the largest sector of reported labor trafficking cases in the US. Hidden behind closed doors, domestic workers are particularly vulnerable to abuse. The isolation of the work, combined with harsh immigration policies and the extreme economic pressures leave far too much room for those who seek to take advantage, to do so. One way to combat trafficking and protect this important workforce is by reauthorizing The Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA). TVPRA is the first comprehensive federal law in the US to address human trafficking both in the US and around the world. The law provides a threefold plan for the US government to elevate protections for trafficking survivors, prosecution of traffickers and prevention of trafficking internationally. In our current political climate, we anticipate that the labor rights of survivors will only deteriorate. Join us in calling on Congress to reauthorize TVPRA this year and maintain a comprehensive strategy for ending all forms of human trafficking both globally and in the US. We have a moral imperative to fight for the freedom and security of women like Lola.
