Tell Congress: Stop Trump’s attacks on TSA

For decades, airport security was staffed by the lowest-cost private companies on an airport-by-airport basis. After the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created to standardize airport security and strengthen safety nationwide. In 2011, TSA workers unionized. In 2023, they secured a long-awaited 30% pay raise. TSA workers’ ability to collectively bargain made security better, and allowed dedicated public servants to make a career out of keeping us safe on our flights. But in March, Trump’s Department of Homeland Security abruptly ripped up the union’s contract with no warning. The move was part of the Trump administration’s broader push to target federal employees and attack unions nationwide. Trump’s attack on TSA’s collective bargaining rights betrayed more than 50,000 workers who had signed a seven-year contract guaranteeing better wages and fair working conditions. Now, our airport security is being thrown into chaos. The people responsible for ensuring weapons, explosives, and other dangerous items don’t make it through airport security are facing uncertain futures. Many are facing layoffs. Workers say that Trump’s attacks on the TSA will cause unnecessary security vulnerabilities, and leave us open to terrorist attacks. TSA agents are also warning that by cutting staff and slowing down security, the Trump administration is letting TSA security fail so they can open the door to corporate privatization. In fact, Project 2025 outlined a two-step plan for TSA: End the union and privatize TSA screening. We can’t stand by while Donald Trump and Elon Musk attack the federal public servants that make flying safe for all. Tell Congress: Stand up for workers’ rights and airport security. Stop Trump’s attacks on TSA.
