Hundreds of thousands of private-sector workers will be affected by this decision, and some may see pay cuts of up to 25%. To be sure, workers wouldn’t be in this position in the first place if Congress had done its job and raised the federal minimum wage to a living wage. The federal minimum wage has been a paltry $7.25 per hour for 16 years. As of 2024, it has lost 30% of its value since 2009. No less than 74% of voters support raising the federal minimum wage.
