Tell Hudson County Commissioners: "Save Christ Hospital! Save lives!"

Healthcare is under attack in Jersey City! On Saturday, March 14th at 7:30pm, Christ Hospital closed its doors. Its owner, Hudson Regional Health, intends to tear it down and build luxury condos on the land. The NNJ DSA Health Justice Working Group showed up in full force to try to stop it: a 50-hour sit-in from Thursday to Saturday and die-in protest on Saturday attended by dozens of Hudson County residents and press. Now, the Jersey City Medical Center, which has a capacity of only about 300 beds, is the only hospital left in Jersey City. Not only will it be overburdened, but so will other hospitals in the county. Jersey City will become a healthcare desert, with fewer than 1 hospital bed per 857 residents. The Health Justice Working Group has a plan: the People's Plan for Christ Hospital. Endorsed by DSA members such as Jersey City councilmembers Jake Ephros and Joel Brooks, as well as Assemblywoman Katie Brennan, the plan consists of the following: Demand that the Hudson County Commissioners use the power of eminent domain to take control of the land beneath Christ Hospital. Appoint a receiver to operate the emergency services and hold the hospital license. Formation of a Hudson County Hospital Authority (pursuant to N.J.S.A. 30:9-23.15) to acquire the hospital facility Transform the Medical District to meet the healthcare needs of the community. Now is the time for action! Write a letter to your county commissioners and let them know that you support the People's Plan for Christ Hospital.
