Tell lawmakers: Hold the line! No cuts to public education! After much wrangling, the legislature is considering bills that would use $99 million from the state’s Rainy Day Fund to help fill our $304 million budget deficit without cutting public education. At first, the House of Representatives reduced the Rainy Day Fund contribution to $74 million, but the Senate increased it to $99 million in two instruments, HB 3 and SCR 2. Governor Edwards is holding the line, and says he will not accept amendments that will use less than $99 million to fill the budget hole. Otherwise, public education’s Minimum Foundation Program could be cut for the first time in history. Please send your representative a message. Tell them to vote for the Senate versions of SCR 2 and HB 3. The future of public education is at stake!
