Tell the Senate: Stop Gorsuch

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/groups/default_facebook_images/000/004/355/original/Screen_Shot_2021-09-24_at_10.34.08_AM.png?1632494514</thumbnail_url>

If Neil Gorsuch is confirmed, he’ll likely have a seat on the Supreme Court for more than 20 years. That’s decades of extremist decisions that will harm students, women and working families. The plain fact is, Gorsuch going to try to shift the court to the right. Anti-union forces want to overturn our federal labor laws and make the entire country adopt “right-to-work” policies. Last year, after Justice Scalia’s death, the court was split 4-4 in Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, failing to decide whether public sector unions can collect fees from workers who don’t join the union but whose interests they must represent. If confirmed, Gorsuch would be the deciding vote next time the court addresses this issue, which could threaten the future of organized labor. We simply can’t let that happen. Just look at a few of Gorsuch’s cases and you’ll see why he’s such a scary nominee: Gorsuch ruled against a student with autism, attempting to gut the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The Supreme Court unanimously overturned his approach, but he’ll keep advocating for it if he’s confirmed. In the case of a truck driver who was stranded in the freezing cab of his broken-down truck, Gorsuch claimed that the company had a right to fire the employee because he took the initiative to save his own life. All the other judges on the case disagreed with him, but he still found a way to side with the corporation. In the case of an employee who was sexually harassed at work, Gorsuch decided that she didn’t have a case when the company fired her because she had taken a few weeks to report her sexual harassment. Think about that—she was the victim, but again he sided with the corporation. Democrats are likely to filibuster Trump’s radical nominee to the Supreme Court, but Republicans are threatening the process with the “nuclear option”—a move to change the rules and allow a simple majority vote to confirm Gorsuch and defeat the filibuster. Polls show going that route would be extremely unpopular for Senate Republicans and many Republicans may come out against it. We have an opportunity to pressure Republicans right now to respect the 60-vote threshold for the Supreme Court. They don’t want to be on the wrong side of history or public opinion, so let’s fill up their inboxes with that message. Every senator must hear from us. Our activism is working. We stopped Trumpcare. Now let’s stop Gorsuch.
