Unfortunately, the USFWS is focusing exclusively on "cross-fostering." As its name implies, it places individual pups into existing wild wolf dens or packs. While this could result in slow, incremental wild population gains, it is not sufficient. Instead, the USFWS could and should release bonded wolf families, rather than individual pups. This would increase genetic diversity and speed the dispersal of wild wolves into additional suitable habitat.
