Tell Your Councilor: Sameer Kanal for Council President

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Tomorrow, Portland City Council will meet for the second time to elect a Council President. The President has the ability to set agenda items and holds tremendous power in our new form of city government. Last week, there was a deadlock between current President Elana Pirtle-Guiney and Sameer Kanal, a DSA member who has fought for police oversight, ethical investment policy, and government transparency. The Portland business class has rallied around Pirtle-Guiney because they want to consolidate power and retain their close ties to City Hall. The most conservative voices on Council are backing her too, using racist narratives to present Councilor Kanal as a threat. We need to let our city councilors know that a continuation of the status quo is unacceptable. Take one minute to send them a message.
