Tell Congress: Reject Trump’s budget attacking public education

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Donald Trump has presented his budget to Congress that would pull billions of dollars out of public education while eliminating programs and weakening the protections schools rely on to serve students. These changes go beyond top-line cuts. Key programs that serve multilingual learners, migrant students, and college access pathways are being eliminated. would be consolidated into a single funding stream that cuts billions and removes guarantees and protections for students from marginalized backgrounds, including disabled students. Schools will be forced to stretch limited dollars further each year, leading to staff reductions, fewer services, and fewer opportunities for students. Programs that support literacy, enrichment, and student well-being are at risk as districts are pushed to do more with less. The programs most affected are the ones that make public education more equitable. Federal funding supports students with disabilities, English learners, low-income students, and communities facing systemic barriers. When those resources are reduced or removed, inequities widen. Because wealthier districts can rely more heavily on local property taxes to fund schools, cuts would be felt unequally. Rural districts, Tribal schools, segregated urban systems, and high-poverty communities would bear the brunt of these cuts, which would deepen gaps in opportunity across the country. Trump’s budget also weakens oversight. Reductions to civil rights enforcement and education research limit the ability to track outcomes, enforce protections, and ensure that students are being served fairly. At the same time, the proposal reduces the capacity of the Department of Education itself, limiting its ability to carry out its core responsibilities and support children and schools nationwide. Congress is making a decision about priorities right now. Click here to see how proposed education cuts could impact your community. These changes would move public education toward a system that serves wealthy communities and leaves the majority of children and communities behind.
