We have one last hurdle to fight to continue to protect human and nonhuman animals. Decisions are being made in favor of Big Pork and Big Ag. This bill aims to strip states of making decisions regarding animal welfare regulations and surrender control to federal lawmakers. States have the right to make decisions that reflect what the people want and this bill would override democracy. Farmed animals are not protected within the Animal Welfare Act and other federal laws, therefore states have individually implemented laws to mitigate extreme animal cruelty. Rolling back laws centering animal protection fosters harm, destruction, and brutality. The Farm Bill would not only loosen regulations regarding animal cruelty, but heavily impact farmers, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, and the population as a whole. This bill would enact the largest cuts yet to SNAP and change eligibility requirements, stripping millions of recipients of assistance. The bill would also dismiss strong safety warnings about certain agricultural pesticides, impacting farmers and the wider population. Lawmakers are making decisions quickly and we need you to take action to spare animals and local communities from further suffering.
