Urge your Member of Congress to Restart US-DPRK Dialogues

The Pentagon announced on August 19, 2026, that the major 11-day Freedom Ulchi Shield joint military exercises with South Korea would be cut in half. This followed President Trump’s social media announcement on August 16 that he would “substantially reduce” these joint military exercises. In response to Trump, South Korea’s Presidential Office stated that it “hopes that the friendly relationship between the U.S. and North Korean leaders will lead to meaningful dialogue between the two countries, opening discussions aimed at advancing peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.” South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has also renewed his push to regain wartime operational control from the United States. Meanwhile, North Korea’s leadership stated today, 8/19, that reducing the scale and duration of the exercises does not change their “provocative and offensive” nature, though the relationship between Trump and Kim “remains excellent.” Now is the time to write to our Members of Congress to demand that they support the peace efforts. As the nation that is still at war with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States must act now to end its longest war and pursue peace, engagement, and diplomacy. We have a limited window of opportunity for engagement. Peace cannot wait for another generation. Urge your Member of Congress to Support US-DPRK Dialogues and a peace agreement between the U.S. and DPRK. Congress must act as an independent check to keep any renewed process of dialogue with North Korea from being undermined. Send the letter by filling in your information, and the letter will be automatically delivered to your Representatives and Senators.
