Urge your Senator to Support Adjuncts

Massachusetts institutions of public higher education are increasingly relying on adjunct faculty. These faculty members do not receive employer-provided health insurance or retirement benefits and are ineligible for Social Security regardless of the number of hours they work. At many public campuses adjuncts teach the majority of courses — more than 75 percent at some. An MTA supported amendment (#18) to the Senate’s version of the Economic Development bill (S.3178) will be debated on Wednesday, July 22. This amendment seeks to focus attention on the long-standing injustice adjuncts face by creating a special commission to tackle obstacles and creates a pathway to provide adjunct faculty with benefits comparable to those provided to other state employees. CALL AND EMAIL YOUR STATE LEGISLATOR NOW! Ask them to co-sponsor amendment #18 to the economic development bill. You can find your legislators' phone numbers by clicking here.
