APVMA, review 1080 poison today

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has the legislative power to review and reconsider the continued use of chemicals under the Agvet Code. This petition calls on the APVMA to urgently, thoroughly, and transparently reconsider the approval and registration of sodium fluoroacetate (1080/'ten-eighty'). 1080 is inhumane. It does not belong in a country that claims to care for animals. Considered a "homicidal poison," 1080 is "one of the most toxic substances" found anywhere in the world. It is in the same regulatory schedule as other notorious poisons like cyanide and arsenic, yet we permit it's use to occasion the protracted deaths of unwanted or unwelcome wildlife. 1080 is indiscriminate. There is no antidote. Powerless to stop the suffering, veterinarian advice is euthanasia for welfare reasons. Death can come up to 48 hours (two full days) after ingestion. It has been described as being akin to being relentlessly electrocuted for days on end. The World Health Organisation has reported cases in which 1080 has killed “third-hand”. That is, the original animal plus two additional animals. Australia, it's time. Enough is enough. Let's ban 1080 together.
