Ban Assault Weapons

One paramount responsibility of our government is to preserve the right for its citizens to establish prosperous communities free from threats of violence. Based upon the Constitution and years of legal precedent, it has been established that lawmakers have wide leeway to restrict guns to promote public safety so long as the basic right of law-abiding people to own a gun for self-defense is preserved. There is sufficient evidence of the inadequacies of current gun control laws to reasonably protect our children from school shootings, particularly those perpetrated with assault weapons. There are no credible justifications that the need for access to assault weapons for self-defense outweighs the obligation to protect our communities, particularly our children. We must act now to address the further threat, terror and irreversible damage of this type of gun violence in our communities.
