At the time, the Mayor and City Council said that Roosevelt lacks quality open public space and that a park here is “necessary and in the public’s best interest.” They were right then and it’s still true now. This piece of land is on 14th Ave NE between NE 65th and NE 66th Streets, right in the heart of our neighborhood, across the street from the front entrance of Roosevelt High School, and adjacent to the Centerline apartment complex. In the 11 years since the park was promised, the population of Roosevelt has doubled and the need for a park is even greater. But the Parks Department tells us that we must wait even longer, perhaps until 2030 or later. Roosevelt Reimagined believes that we have waited long enough. This petition is the beginning of a campaign to advocate for beginning the park as soon as it is feasible to do so. Join us in making this long-delayed dream a reality.
