But did you know that its worthy charity body, the Celtic FC Foundation, bank with Barclays, major investors in arms to Israel for the horror genocide in Gaza? The global charity War on Want calculate that between 2019 and 2023 Barclays provided $7.6 billion in loans and underwriting to seven companies whose weapons, components and military technology have been used in Israel’s unlawful violence against the Palestinians. Barclays is investing billions in arms companies supplying weapons to Israel, fueling the violence and devastation in Gaza. These weapons are used to enforce apartheid policies and displace countless Palestinian families. Their money is our money. By banking with Barclays, the Celtic FC Foundation is complicit in funding genocide and the oppression of the Palestinian people. And if you know your history, you’ll understand why this club, founded back in 1888 to help a community facing racist oppression and discrimination, shouldn’t now be banking charitable money with an institution enabling ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and genocide. Celtic FC fans have a proud history of solidarity with the Palestinian struggle. From the flying of Palestinian flags at matches to public displays of support, we have always stood with those fighting against oppression. A formal letter has been sent to the CEO and Trustees of the Foundation explaining these concerns and urging them to withdraw from Barclays. Further action is being planned to demand accountability and to ensure the Foundation aligns its practices with the values of the Celtic community.
