WEALTH COALITION DEMANDS DATA CENTER MORATORIUM PENDING ADOPTION OF GUARDRAILS

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The Kansas WEALTH (Water, Energy, Air, Land, transportation, and Health) Coalition is concerned about the haphazard way large-scale data centers are being sited and built throughout the state, and we call on elected officials and regulators on the state, county, and municipal levels to implement a moratorium on new large-scale data center projects until significant guardrails to improve transparency, local control, and responsible oversight of such projects can be developed and implemented. The Kansas WEALTH Coalition is in support of state and local policies that prioritize the health, safety, and welfare of Kansas communities, according to the following principles: Corporate accountability - Ensuring that developers are transparent and accountable Transparent third-party studies of environmental and infrastructure impact Protection of local water resources and the long-term needs of Kansans Establish reasonable buffer zones from schools, hospitals, and neighborhoods Create meaningful public participation and opportunities for community input Transparent review processes based on unique impacts and local circumstances New Clean Capacity and Energy - generate or purchase their own new clean energy Build to the highest energy efficiency standards to reduce further grid impacts Transparent reporting and accountability regarding public water and energy use Fair labor standards - prevailing wage and use of Kansas-based labor Our full statement can be found as a PDF here. If you agree with and want to support these principles, please sign this petition. It will be presented with local and state elected officials and regulators and as a tool for local communities as they negotiate on this difficult topic.
