"Cosmopolitan elite” is a term used by Hitler and Stalin to describe Jews. By adopting this phrase to refer to a financial conspiracy to weaken the nation, Hawley promoted antisemitic tropes that have been wielded for centuries to incite violence against Jews. The type of antisemitism we have seen from Hawley is nothing new in today’s GOP, which has embraced, empowered, and incited white nationalist violence against Jews, immigrants, Brown and Black people, Muslims, Sikhs, and Jews.
