Don't Let AT&T Leave Communities and Workers Behind

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

AT&T has announced plans to acquire Lumen’s residential fiber business across 11 states. This deal will have serious negative consequences for both customers and workers if it is allowed to go forward as currently structured. AT&T is cherry-picking the highly profitable fiber markets for this sale, leaving behind 1.4 million customers in underserved and rural areas. Lumen will keep its old copper lines in mostly rural areas and has said it plans to shut them down over the next 7 to 10 years. Their own executives admit they have no plans to bring fiber to these communities, leaving residents with unreliable, unaffordable options. We are concerned that with this purchase, AT&T plans to copy the private equity model used in its Gigapower partnership with Blackrock, relying on non-union contractors for broadband deployment, putting safety at risk. Private equity investments notoriously prioritize making money over servicing customers and protecting workers. At the same time, AT&T is threatening good union jobs by trying to strip away our contract protections when they create the new subsidiary. CWA members at Lumen care deeply about the customers and communities we serve, and want to continue providing the high-quality service that customers deserve. AT&T and Lumen must commit to maintaining a well-trained, directly hired union workforce and make sure that customers who depend on Lumen’s copper network are not left behind. Add your name to the petition asking the FCC and state regulators to review the sale and impose conditions to ensure workers and consumers won’t be left behind.
