We stand united against all politically motivated attacks on the judiciary and on Americans standing for justice On April 25, 2025, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested by FBI agents and charged with two felonies: obstruction and concealing an individual to prevent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention. On April 18th, ICE agents swarmed the Milwaukee County Courthouse during a hearing for 30-year-old Mexican immigrant Eduardo Flores-Ruiz. Judge Dugan offered him and his attorney an alternative exit from the courtroom. ICE agents then chased down Flores-Ruiz and arrested him. Judge Dugan’s arrest is another example of Donald Trump’s weaponization of federal agencies to intimidate judges, immigrants, and any Americans standing in the way of the Trump administration's attacks on Americans. The charges against her represent a dangerous escalation of federal overreach into the independence of the judiciary and the rights of immigrants. We call on the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, and all relevant authorities to: Drop all charges against Judge Hannah Dugan immediately. End the targeting of judges, lawyers, and community leaders who act in defense of immigrant rights. Reaffirm the principle that courthouses are spaces of due process, not places to target and detain immigrants. We call on the Governor and Attorney General to: Condemn the actions of the administration Develop a plan to proactively protect our courthouses, our officials, and Wisconsinites against weaponization of federal agencies by the Trump administration Judge Dugan has our full support. We urge people across America to stand with her and fight back against unprecedented attacks on Americans standing for justice.
