Duke, De-ICE These Flights!

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Last November, ICE brought chaos and fear to our Durham community, intimidating families and our neighbors to the point they were afraid to go to work, school or the grocery store. But ICE is targeting ALL of us, regardless of our race or citizenship status. We live under the threat that ICE may return to Durham at any time and threaten anyone who stands up to them. The next time ICE comes to Durham has the potential to be violent, disastrous or even deadly. The moment for Duke to take action is now. As the largest employer and healthcare provider in Durham, Duke has a responsibility to stand up, fight back and defend the rights of its workers, students and faculty during this dire moment. Now that it’s March Madness, the nation is watching Duke too. Institutions like Duke will be judged by the actions they take during this moment to stand up to abject cruelty and violence and protect the people who keep our campus and community running. There are two clear actions Duke can take to protect our people and reject the cruelty. First, Duke can sign the Fourth Amendment pledge to refuse ICE’s request to enter private areas unless they have a judicial warrant. Second, Duke should refuse to contract with GlobalX or any other charter airline that alternates between transporting college athletes and ripping apart families through deportation flights. Duke has a choice: stand with the workers, educators, students and healthcare providers who keep the University running, or stand on the side of ICE Air and masked federal agents who disrupt our communities with violence, threaten our rights and push us into the shadows. Duke, will you stand up and say cruelty doesn't fly in Durham?
