End mandatory car storage rules

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/petitions/photos/000/268/063/normal/homes___parking_option.png</thumbnail_url>

We’re asking for an end to government mandated car storage (parking minimums) so people are free to choose how much parking they want with their home, from 3 car garages and an RV pad, to none at all. Despite a housing crisis that’s getting worse by the day, some of our neighbors want to continue to prioritize parking spots for cars over homes for people! Land is expensive in Bend, and therefore parking is too: forcing those of lesser means to purchase a parking spot when some don’t even own a car makes it difficult to build the kind of lower cost housing needed to keep people from being homeless. Join us in letting city council know that Bend is a city for people first, and that cars are not more important than our friends and neighbors. This is not a radical new idea: Bend had no parking regulations prior to WWII, and the areas of town built that way are still very much loved and in demand. Many developers will still provide parking if that's what the market prefers, just as they provide 2 or more bathrooms in many homes even if the government does not require they do so. References: Parking reform will help us create a sustainable future for Bend The strongest evidence yet that parking spaces cause more driving Series: Parking? Lots!
