At the UW, many workers put themselves at risk every day for the sake of our communities. At the end of January, the Seattle City Council passed legislation requiring $4/hour hazard pay be awarded to grocery workers. We stand with our siblings doing essential work. They face significant increased danger of contracting COVID-19 at work—and so do we. To save lives in our communities, we put ourselves and our families at risk, and we deserve to be compensated for that.
