Councils provide the essential services we all rely on; schools, care for the elderly and vulnerable, housing, transport, libraries, parks, waste collection, and so much more. But, right now, Councils across Scotland face a growing funding crisis. That is why Unite are calling for the Scottish Government to work with us to: Council Tax reform to replace outdated, regressive structures. Creation of a nationally coordinated debt servicing strategy. Improve financial stability through shared services, multi-year pay deals, and long-term planning. A Fair Funding review which looks at funding distribution and ensures distribution based on need. Reassessment of ring-fenced funds to enable flexible allocation based on community priorities. Insourcing of services to end costly outsourcing by bringing services back in-house and removing profit being extracted from to our services.
