ICE OUT of UConn

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Since its inception in 2003, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has terrorized American communities. Recent escalations of federal presence in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Minneapolis, as well as the 170% increase in daily ICE arrests nationwide, have put this lawless violence and cruelty on full display. Within every community, people are living paralyzed by constant fear, and ours is no different. ICE detentions in Connecticut more than doubled in the past year. In that time, ICE has forcibly taken community members in Willimantic, Windham, and Eastford, all within the immediate vicinity of UConn. And in April 2025, 13 UConn students were among the hundreds of international students to have their visas illegally revoked, making them immediately subject to potential detention and removal. In its scant communications regarding immigration in the past 13 months, UConn has not made clear what it will do to keep its immigrant and international students, faculty, and staff safe, nor has it implemented the necessary policies and protocols to prepare for the threat of a federal presence on its campuses. The right to prevent unlawful intrusions into private areas is fundamental to people’s protection within any facility or institution. In an April 28th, 2025 statement, UConn leadership claimed it was “virtually impossible” for the University to even identify the private areas on its own campus, much less develop any strategy to uphold the rights and safety of the people within them. According to UConn, no part of our campus is safe. We call on our community to demand that President Maric, the Board of Trustees, and the UConn administration take the necessary steps to keep its students, faculty, and staff safe from the threat of ICE, NOW!! An in-depth list of demands is available at this link.
