In light of these serious allegations, we demand Supervisor Do’s immediate resignation and a thorough investigation and audit of all public funds allocated under his oversight. As reported by the LAist, Supervisor Do did not publicly disclose his family connection when he allocated $3.1 million in two contracts to Warner Wellness Center, a nonprofit where Supervisor Do’s daughter serves as president. Do previously played a role in sending $4.2 million to its parent group, even though it “was not a legally registered nonprofit.” In addition, last year Supervisor Do was fined $12,000 by the California Fair Political Practices Commission for engaging in “pay-to-play” politics by steering lobbyist contracts to his own campaign donors while serving on the board of CalOptima, the agency that oversees OC’s medical insurance plan for the poor. These actions reek of corruption and raise serious questions about ethical conduct and financial stewardship within the realm of public office. Time and time again, elected officials like Supervisor Do have demonstrated a dedication to lining his own pocket and those of his close circle, rather than serving the public. These actions by Supervisor Do – which are so common that they have become “business as usual” – erode public trust in government and contribute to the very inequities he claims he is working to combat. Additionally, as the Supervisor for District 1, where the largest concentration of Vietnamese community members reside, Andrew Do holds one of the most powerful seats in local government and is one of the most high-profile Vietnamese elected officials locally. He has been known to mentor and collaborate with a number of other Vietnamese elected officials in the county. The act of channeling millions of dollars in public funds to his daughter’s nonprofit cannot be accomplished by one person alone. There is an ecosystem of people in local politics who have not only enabled this but have also conspired with Supervisor Do to make this happen. In the interest of maintaining public trust and mending the integrity of our local government, we call on the Orange County Board of Supervisors to take the following actions: Accept the resignation of Supervisor Andrew Do. Initiate an immediate, impartial investigation into the reported ethics violations. Conduct a comprehensive audit of all public funds allocated under Supervisor Do’s oversight. We also call on local elected officials to call for Supervisor Do’s resignation and an immediate investigation and audit into the reported ethics violations. These measures are imperative to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the restoration of public trust in our local government. Our community deserves elected officials who adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct. The public has an undeniable right to timely disclosure of the full extent of Supervisor Do’s potential ethics violations – justice delayed only deepens the impact of these abuses of power.
