We ask our elected officials to implement the following housing demands Declare an Eviction Moratorium until we have an affordable and accessible vaccine for COVID- 19. Cancel all rent and mortgage payments for tenants, small businesses, and homeowners experiencing economic hardship until we have an affordable and accessible vaccine for COVID- 19. Prevent displacement and quickly re-house rent-burdened or homeless individuals through legislation and/or supplemental policies. Require that at least 25% of all housing stock is guaranteed as permanently affordable housing in Ulster County. We demand Senate passage of the House of Representatives version of the HEROES Act, which includes $100 billion to cover rent and mortgage payments to prevent homelessness. We are joining the many state and local governments, housing industry associations, advocacy and service organizations to demand short and medium term relief from this housing crisis. Under no circumstances can we tolerate a continuation or increase of homelessness due to this pandemic, and we, as a community, call on county, city, and town officials to support these demands for affordable, safe and secure housing for all residents.
