House bill 995 is an extreme attack on the rights of Florida public service workers just to score political points with billionaire donors. It would take away public service workers’ freedom to speak up for ourselves, our coworkers and the vital services we provide our communities by making it nearly impossible for us to stand together in a union. Public employees in Florida already have multiple steps we voluntarily take to have a union on the job. All union members have the right to, and are encouraged to, be involved in how our union is run. And every public employee in Florida has the right to vote on the contracts that are bargained by the union. Without strong unions we could be more easily intimidated to look the other way when it comes to discrimination or harassment and retaliated against if we advocate for safer working conditions.
