This project, called MVP Southgate, would connect to the controversial 300-mile Mountain Valley Pipeline, which runs through West Virginia and Virginia. Before developers are allowed to proceed with the proposed project, they have to receive approvals on multiple permits from different regulatory agencies. Developers have applied for a 401 water quality permit from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality. NCDEQ is seeking feedback from the public before it makes a decision on the permit. Pipeline construction can cause uncontrolled erosion and sedimentation pollution in nearby waterways.
