CCI’s 2026 legislative priorities include: Ø Restoring funding for water quality monitoring sensors. The legislature must restore $500,000 in funding for a system of 60-70 water quality sensors across the state. Monitoring is an important first step to cleaning up our water. Ø Increasing funding for mapping our aquifers. Our aquifers our one of our most important resources but right now we don’t have a clear picture of how much water is in them. To make long-term decisions that protect our water we need to give more funding to our state geologist to map our aquifers. Ø Increasing funding for local conservation practices. Conservation practices are a major part of the solution to protecting and improving water quality and quantity in Iowa.
