Reopen Jacksonville's Homeless Day Resource Center

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

Jacksonville currently has no facilities open during day hours to provide services to its homeless population. Existing shelters provide only overnight services, and have strict requirements for entry including IDs, sobriety, county residency, and mandatory classes. They often have limited bed spaces, no storage for possessions, and push religious agendas. A Day Resource Center pilot program that served 200 homeless people daily ended in October of 2015, sending homeless Jacksonville citizens back on the streets. The Day Resource Center provided showers, restrooms, phones, mailing address, computers, washer and dryers, storage lockers, assessments and referrals for services, and most importantly, a place to be safe and out of rain, cold, and heat. On August 1, Jacksonville City Council and Mayor Curry will begin approving the annual city budget. People Demanding Action is asking City Council and the Mayor's Office to add funding to re-open the Homeless Day Resource Center in downtown Jacksonville. By adding your name to this petition, you are demanding that Jacksonville City Council and Mayor Curry add the approximately $381,000 to the budget to provide this service to Jacksonville's homeless residents.
