Save Little Mindil

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/share_options/facebook_images/000/324/447/original/LookingDownWithWords.jpg</thumbnail_url>

We, people of the Northern Territory have always valued the right to freely use foreshore lands along our coastline, which is the pattern. This includes Little Mindi, an essential part of the Mindil Beach natural amphitheatre, bounded by the escarpment surrounding it. George Goyder in the original survey identified this area on maps as ‘Parklands’. More than ever this area is needed for free public relaxation and enjoyment today. On 27 May, 2021, without exhibition, or public consultation, a delegate of the Northern Territory Government ’secretly' rezoned our Little Mindil (Lot 7651, etc) from public open space (PS) to Tourism Commercial (TC) leaving only a tiny splinter for public use. The instrument used was Amendment No:16 of the NT Planning Scheme, 2020. The public strongly question the correctness and proper use of this amendment, and its use. YOUR PETITIONERS THEREFORE HUMBLY PRAY THAT The Northern Territory Government delays proceeding with any tourist development applications for this site, until this matter is properly resolved independently to the public’s satisfaction, and that Little Mindil remains an area for free public recreation and enjoyment.
