New fossil fuel developments, such as extracting new gas, will add more emissions to the atmosphere, aren't compatible with tackling climate change and keep us hooked on fossil fuels instead of investing in clean and affordable renewable energy. Despite this, Egdon Resources and Europa Oil and Gas plan to drill for gas at Burniston in North Yorkshire. The gas drilling, only 800m from the iconic North Yorks Moors National Park, would involve a proppant squeeze - a technique similar to hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) to inject fluids and ceramic beads to create rock fractures enabling trapped gas to flow to the surface. We call on North Yorkshire Council to refuse Egdon Resources and Europa Oil and Gas plans for gas drilling at Burniston for the following reasons: Exploring for fossil fuels is incompatible with the urgent action required to tackle climate change. The plans, with hundreds of additional HGVs and 24 hour drilling, would be a major disruption for the local community.
