Scotland Needs a Nature Minister

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/petitions/photos/000/763/958/normal/Land_2.png</thumbnail_url>

This year Scotland signed off on the Natural Environment Act, setting up a framework to create nature recovery targets. Now, it’s up to the new government to create targets that will lead to the restoration of Scotland’s natural environment. We know what’s possible. We want to see a Scotland that’s wilder and more full of wonder. Where hills are draped in a complex tapestry of native woodlands and healthy peatlands; grasslands bloom with flowers, and wetlands thrum with life; great, green seagrass meadows carpet the ocean floor; and vast oyster beds buttress our wild coasts. But targets that are too timid won’t reverse decades of decline. Paper-thin promises won’t hold back the ongoing loss of our natural environment. So how do you get a whole government behind ambitious targets that will regenerate our ecosystems? We need a champion at the Cabinet table who wakes up every morning thinking about biodiversity. Someone to oversee the reintroduction of keystone species and ensure every government department is working toward a nature positive Scotland. We call on the First Minister to appoint a dedicated Nature Minister to tackle the nature emergency - and make restoring Scotland’s nature a national mission. When enough people have signed this letter, we'll share it with the First Minister and urge him to appoint a Nature Minister. Add your voice to ours by signing our open letter.
