Eight of them are run by for-profit companies that have contracts with ICE and U.S. Immigration. A recent report from a coalition of immigrant rights groups discusses “systemic human rights” abuses at migrant detention centers in Louisiana. The “for-profit incentive” leads to a “dangerous combination of overcrowding and understaffing” noted the report. These centers need to be shut down immediately.
