Insurance companies are making record profits while thousands of Maine families are struggling to afford the basic care they need to be healthy. Maine's state legislators have done a lot to bring down health care costs, but the work isn't over yet. 34,000 Mainers can't get affordable health care because of what's called the "family glitch." These working families aren’t eligible for affordable plans on the marketplace all because someone in their family was offered an employer-based plan -- even if they can’t afford the employer-based plan. LD 1463 would ask for-profit health insurance companies to continue paying the recently expired Health Insurance Assessment at a state-level in Maine. That money would bring down premium costs for Mainers and finally end the "family glitch". Working families are counting on our lawmakers to pass this bill and put their health before insurance company profits.
