<description>Rhode Islanders were offered a choice of how to cast their ballot in 2020 and they responded in record numbers. We need to make those choices permanent so no eligible Rhode Islander is denied their right to vote. That’s why together we have launched the Let RI Vote campaign to expand voting rights in the Ocean State. Because of the pandemic, in 2020 mail ballots were temporarily made more accessible to Rhode Island voters, resulting in a dramatic increase in their use. Now, unless we act to continue these reforms, it will be far harder for voters like you to cast a mail ballot moving forward. The Let RI Vote campaign wants you to have the choice of voting by mail available for all future elections. The General Assembly also expanded access to early, in-person voting in 2020 and voters responded by taking advantage of that new opportunity. But not all communities made early voting convenient by offering weekend hours. Rhode Island can’t afford inequities in our elections by making your ability to vote early dependent on your zip code. That’s why we need to guarantee early voting statewide—including on weekends. Finally, Rhode Islanders shouldn’t just settle for having expanded access to mail ballots and early voting, reforms that most voters in the country have had for decades. Let RI Vote knows we can do even better by adopting Same Day Registration, a proven reform that is already the law in two-thirds of New England. States that have adopted Same Day Registration have an average turnout five percent higher than other states. Most importantly, all of these reforms can be implemented securely, so that you can feel sure about casting your ballot privately, and with the confidence that your vote will be counted, and counted accurately. It’s time to include more people in our democracy, and ensure that the results of our elections truly reflect the will of the people.
