Educators for Peace was established to build a powerful, transformative educational response to the contemporary global context. We view peace in the world as an urgent priority and are here to support educators in all sectors to be able to educate children and young people for a more just and peaceful world. This means equipping educators with the knowledge, pedagogy and resources to confidently address contemporary issues, that may also be contentious, in the classroom. Our teaching resources are designed to support critical thinking and informed discussion of complex and controversial issues. Targeting by UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) In early May we became aware of an organised smear campaign against our organisation and individual team members by UK Lawyers for Israel. One of UKLFI’s well known tactics is to raise complaints, based on highly subjective and one-sided interpretations, with the professional regulators of individuals employed by public bodies. It is worth noting that UKLFI is now itself the subject of formal regulatory investigations by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and Charity Commission, alleging the use of legal tactics designed to silence rather than resolve political disagreements. The allegations put forward by UKLFI’s campaign against our organisation and individual team members have not been upheld by any professional bodies. We believe this is because our position on the issues raised is a matter of legitimate professional judgement, not professional misconduct. We categorically and wholly reject the allegations contained within the fifty-page dossier that UKLFI submitted to the Scottish Government and others. Educators for Peace is simply one of the latest organisations to be targeted by UKLFI. We understand what this is about: discouraging discussion of Palestine and scrutiny of the actions of the government of Israel, while attempting to pressure small organisations like ours by raising lengthy, seemingly complex allegations with the government, education bodies, local authorities and potential partners.
