These bills would cruelly remove trans youths' right to privacy and right to live authentically in their communities. Senate Bill 156 by Senator Mizell and House Bill 575 by Representative Amedee would force trans students from kindergarten through college to compete in sports based on their sex assigned at birth or not at all. Senate Bill 104 by Senator Fesi would create a new exception to minors' rights to consent to their own health care, making trans youth secure written consent from both parents (even if only one has custody) in order to access medically necessary and clinically appropriate health care. And House Bill 542 by Representative Firment would subject medical providers to criminal penalties, including imprisonment, for providing medically necessary gender affirming health care to any trans person under 18. It would also subject teachers and other school personnel to criminal penalties if they did not out a trans student to their parents, placing young people at risk of violence and homelessness. These bills threaten grave harm to trans youth in Louisiana.
