Stop the Mega City in Utah Lake

	<thumbnail_url>https://can2-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/petitions/photos/000/263/675/normal/Ug.jpg</thumbnail_url>

I signed a petition telling Utah State Legislators and State government: Stop the Mega City in Utah Lake. Do we want a beautiful, healthy, Utah Lake we all can share ... or a huge city built in the middle of the lake on private islands? It appears that some in the Utah Legislature would like to see a private developer attempt to "restore" Utah Lake so the developer and others can profit from building a city of 250,000 to 500,000 in the middle of the lake. Do we want State and federal authorities to approve this scheme? Do we want a private, for-profit developer to try to "restore" Utah Lake by killing the fish in the lake and then attempting to reintroduce native species? We understand the developer says it will "restore” the lake (make it "clean and clear”) in exchange for the State deeding over 20,000 acres of lake bottom—land historically held by the State in public trust for all Utahns. We understand the islands would be made mainly of dredged-up sediment. Imagine the environmental impact that would have on the lake and Utah Valley. Furthermore, a Utah Lake "restored" to its original condition would not have a huge city in the middle. INSTEAD, we support environmentally healthy public efforts to rejuvenate Utah Lake without what scientists see as multiple risks of serious damage to the lake and Utah Valley ecosystems. “Utah Lake is a shallow, grey-green system due to precipitation of limestone particles and algae growth. The lake is naturally cloudy and contains unique ecosystems and species. Since the lake has been misused for 170 years, it needs careful attention and clean-up. The ‘restoration’ of Utah Lake as presented by the developers is not possible. The original lake did not have a city of 250,000 to 500,000 people in the middle. [It] would in effect destroy the ecology of the lake and potentially harm much of its watershed.” —Sam Rushforth, Dean of UVU College of Science, Emeritus Send a message to the Utah Legislature and the State, plus the Army Corps of Engineers. Do not permit private developers to attempt to "restore" Utah Lake so they can build a huge city in the middle. But tell them we want Utah Lake to be rejuvenated in a safe, environmentally healthy way for all future generations to share. Can you join me and take action?
