Support Affordable Housing Funding in Anaheim: Sign On Today!

Anaheim is facing an affordable housing crisis, with thousands of residents struggling to find housing that they can afford. The City is considering an Inclusionary Housing Ordinance aimed at increasing the development of affordable housing units. Other nearby cities, such as Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, and Irvine, have already adopted similar policies with proven success, effectively increasing the supply of affordable homes for low-income families. Inclusionary housing is a policy that requires developers to set aside a certain percentage of housing units as affordable or pay fees that contribute to affordable housing elsewhere in the city. This type of policy ensures that affordable housing is integrated into every new development, creating mixed-income communities that help stabilize housing costs. Anaheim has yet to fully embrace this solution, and as a result, many working families, seniors, and individuals with low incomes are being priced out. Additionally, Anaheim's affordable housing stock is not keeping pace with its growing demand, leaving many on waiting lists or unable to find housing altogether. Over 30,000 households are currently waiting for Section 8 vouchers, with more than 4,000 additional households waiting for affordable housing options. As a city with significant resources, it is time for Anaheim to develop a mechanism to fund affordable housing that is both equitable and sustainable. By learning from neighboring cities and adopting a strong inclusionary housing policy, Anaheim can ensure that affordable, accessible housing becomes a reality for more of its residents and take meaningful steps to address the current crisis.
