Support An Affordable, Clean Energy Future

Demand continued state support for state investment in renewable energy in Rhode Island. Clean energy is how Rhode Island can reduce dependence on dirty, volatile fossil fuels. Electricity costs are rising across Rhode Island—and state leaders are debating how to respond. But not all solutions will actually lower costs in the long run. Right now, proposals in Governor McKee’s FY2026 budget would weaken investments in clean energy and energy efficiency—tools that are essential to stabilizing prices for years to come. Rhode Island’s heavy reliance on natural gas is the real driver of our high prices — exposing ratepayers to unpredictable fuel markets, especially in the winter when demand spikes. Forecasts also show gas prices continuing to rise in the coming years, driven by global markets and unpredictable weather. Maintaining our reliance on gas is going to tie us to an energy source that is getting more expensive and growing more unpredictable. In contrast, renewable energy is local, abundant, and not subject to wild price swings. Clean energy sources like wind and solar provide some of the most stable and affordable electricity available—while creating jobs and keeping energy dollars in the region. At a time when affordability is a top concern, Rhode Island cannot afford to move backward. We need solutions that lower costs over time—not short-term fixes that lock us into expensive, volatile energy for decades. By signing this petition you support maintaining the small investment the state is making to lower costs over time.
