Support British Council Teachers

	<thumbnail_url>https://actionnetwork.org//images/generic_facebook.jpg</thumbnail_url>

The issues raised in this open letter highlight serious and systemic problems within the British Council (BC) and its employment practices, which are negatively impacting the mental health and well-being of online teachers and IELTS examiners. The "feeding frenzy" scheduling system, where teachers must race to book their hours with no guarantee of securing any, is creating a high-stress environment that disrupts work-life balance and exacerbates mental health challenges. Additionally, the lack of clear and accountable grievance procedures, the mistreatment of pregnant workers and new mothers, and the absence of paid mandatory training are examples of how the BC fails to protect its employees' basic rights and dignity. Teachers who raise concerns about these conditions face victimization, with some losing their jobs after speaking out. The inconsistent and confusing employment relationship between the BC and agencies like Impellam further complicates matters, leaving workers in a constant state of uncertainty with no clear recourse. This petition is crucial because it calls for a change in how the British Council operates: transparent grievance procedures, fair and predictable scheduling, recognition and support for workers' rights, and accountability for management practices. By standing together, we can advocate for a fair, respectful, and supportive work environment for all teachers and examiners.
