Unfortunately, Idaho legislators are now attempting to eliminate the Medicaid Expansion. House Bill 138 is being sold as a “reform.” The truth is that the bill would require Medicaid Expansion to be entirely repealed by July 1st, 2026 unless 11 different conditions are met by that date, and several of those conditions are unlawful and therefore impossible to meet. The repeal of Medicaid Expansion would be catastrophic. 90,000 Idahoans would lose their healthcare, and it would devastate our state budget and economy. Consider this: Contrary to claims that the Medicaid Expansion budget is “out of control,” 90% of the cost is covered by federal dollars. In fact, the state revenue and savings generated by Medicaid Expansion exceeds the total cost of the program to Idaho taxpayers. Medicaid Expansion is generating over 9,000 jobs and $47 million in annual tax revenue for the state of Idaho. Medicaid Expansion is reducing medical debt, improving credit thousands of households, and providing Idahoans with the healthcare they need in order to get back to work. As special-interest groups work hard to repeal Medicaid Expansion, it's critical that elected officials hear from the people of Idaho.
