Mass layoffs and workplace safety concerns during this pandemic have made this need even more acute. Corporations continue to profit while denying their employees basic safety protections. The state legislature continues to attack workers with bills that protect employers that put workers at risk of COVID-19, make it illegal for public sector workers to bargain collectively or strike, and undermine teachers unions by opening up the state to charter schools. Manchin himself blocked the $15 federal minimum wage. Therefore, West Virginians need the Protecting the Right to Organize Act (PRO Act) to be able to for their safety and for fair compensation. West Virginians need the PRO Act to restore power to workers that has been undermined for decades, but we can't get it without Joe Manchin's support. The PRO Act would provide protections for West Virginia workers coming together and fighting for better work conditions by: 1. Preventing private employers from interfering with their employees’ organizing efforts 2. Making it easier to join unions 3. Protecting workers from retaliation from bosses 4. Protecting immigrant workers from exploitation 5. Ensuring bosses bargain in good faith for contracts 6. Protecting the free speech of protesting workers 7. Ending right-to-work laws And more! We can win! Joe Manchin has supported and been supported by organized labor in the past. But this time, he's one of only five Democratic senators standing in the way of your right to organize. After blocking the path to a $15 minimum wage, it's not clear whether West Virginia workers are still important to him.  We are asking him to once again stand with West Virginia workers and co-sponsor and fight for the PRO Act.
